Résumé

Are the man-made cirrus clouds caused by jet contrails the result of an intentional spraying program, or are they simply a by-product of increased air traffic?  OVERCAST is a documentary about a phenomenon that most of us would consider normal: Jet contrails that spread into clouds, covering the sky and blocking the sun. For some people however, these trails are the biggest environmental crime in the history of mankind. Based on ideas first outlined in 1974, scientists have developed the basic technology necessary for climate control. Jet planes would be deployed, dispersing large amounts of harmful chemicals into the atmosphere to reflect sunlight back into space.  For over a decade now, the phenomenon has given rise to severe controversy and wild speculation. In a challenging investigation this documentary distinguishes the hard scientific facts from lofty speculation and what has been found is alarming.  

Objectif

Scientific studies showed that cloud cover from spreading jet contrails were having a substantial impact on our climate, on the weather, as well as on the sun's reflectivity, or albedo. More recently, studies had come to the conclusion that the impact of these man-made cirrus clouds by air traffic on global warming was larger than all of the CO2 emitted since the beginning of aviation. Hence emissions from aircrafts are not yet globally regulated. So far there have just been a few studies looking at the chemical composition of the particulate matters from aircraft engine exhaust. Being an open-minded, sun loving, sceptical, ecologically oriented and nature-loving individual I want to make people aware of this phenomenon and the option to modify climate by putting chemicals into the atmosphere in order to have clean air and blue skies for the next generation.
